CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE:

Initial recommendations:

  • Perform a visual and mechanical inspection of the new surgical instrument.
  • Visible dirt should be removed as soon as possible to prevent residues from drying.
  • Avoid long waiting times for cleaning and disinfecting the instrument.

Preliminary manual cleaning:

  • Initially, it should be washed by hand with neutral soap.
  • In the operating room, the most apparent dirt should be removed as soon as possible to prevent encrustation, which could lead to corrosion.
  • It is essential to avoid long waiting times before reprocessing (<1h).
  • Dry cleaning is preferable as medical devices can suffer from corrosion if submerged for long periods in solutions.
  • If dry cleaning is insufficient, it will be necessary to wash them with cold water (< 40ºC), including cavities, grooves, and hard-to-reach holes, which should be washed with pressurized water. Make sure no areas are left unwashed. A soft-bristled plastic brush may be used.
  • Thoroughly dry with an absorbent lint-free cloth or compressed air.

Cleaning and disinfection:

  • Immerse the products in a solution of distilled water with a suitable disinfectant in an ultrasonic bath or a cleaning tank.
  • Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for the disinfectant to select the washing program, temperature, and time.
  • Clean instruments with movable joints in the open position or move the joints to avoid "shadow areas." Follow the manufacturer's instructions for disassembling detachable instruments.
  • The instruments must be placed with a minimum separation between them in the cleaning container and avoid overlapping to prevent damage caused by impact.
  • At the end of the disinfection program, rinse the products thoroughly with distilled cold water, paying particular attention to cavities, grooves, and hard-to-reach holes, preferably with pressurized water.
  • Thoroughly dry with an absorbent lint-free cloth or compressed air.

Lubrication:

  • Use the Sterilit Protector Instrumental (ref. 13.859.1 and 13.859.2) to protect the instruments.
  • Attach the supplied white plastic tube to the spray and apply the aerosol oil directly to the joint area or hard-to-reach zones.
  • Open and close the instrument several times to distribute the oil evenly and remove excess oil with a lint-free cloth. Then, proceed with the sterilization of the instrument, as the oil film is permeable to steam. It will act as a lubricant and anti-corrosive without leaving stains on the instruments.

Sterilization:

  • Sterilize the products in accordance with applicable national requirements.
  • Sterilization of the products must be carried out in suitable sterilization packaging.
