SOFT PODIATRY SILICONE

Blanda-Blanda Silicone is a very soft (3-4 Shore A) podiatry silicone, specially designed for the manufacture of palliative orthoses and orthoplasties in podiatry and orthopaedics.

It comes in the form of a viscous silicone paste that vulcanises at room temperature through a polycondensation reaction. When the Master-Cat catalyst is added, the silicone hardens to form an elastic and durable material.

Its formulation contains medical-grade oil, an antibacterial agent and hydroxyprolysilane. Thanks to its excellent softness and elasticity, it is particularly suitable for making very soft orthoses designed to reduce pressure points and friction, as well as interdigital separators and cushioning elements.

It is also easy to work with, does not tear or stick to the hands during handling. It has a pink colour, a strawberry fragrance and can be mixed with other silicones. The elasticity of the orthosis increases after a few days.

COMPOSITION:

• Silicone polymer.

PHYSICOCHEMICAL PROPERTIES:

• Appearance: viscous silicone paste.

• Density at 20 °C: 1.2 g/cm³.
• Flash point: 184 °C.
• Boiling point: 845 °C.
• Water solubility: insoluble.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE:

1. Take the required amount of silicone and add the Master-Cat catalyst. The recommended ratio is 100 parts silicone to 5 parts catalyst.
2. Knead the silicone paste vigorously with the catalyst until a homogeneous mixture is obtained.
3. When the silicone begins to thicken, apply immediately to the desired area and shape the orthosis.
4. Hold the orthosis in place for a few minutes. It can then be removed, adjusted and given to the patient.
5. The working time is approximately 5 minutes, and complete vulcanisation is achieved after 24 hours.

Due to its mineral oil content, this silicone may take longer to cure.

Master-Cat note: Add 2 lines of catalyst, each approximately the length of the little finger.

PRECAUTIONS:

• Control the amount of catalyst and kneading time.
• Do not add more catalyst than necessary.
• Knead thoroughly and quickly to prevent the silicone from starting to vulcanise during handling.
• Continuing to mix once vulcanisation has begun may cause lumps to form, resulting in a poorly finished orthosis that is more prone to tearing.

WARNINGS:

• Keep out of reach of children.
• If any adverse reaction or irritation occurs, discontinue use and consult a specialist.
